Jun 2009 - I am very pleased to announce
that the former chair of Vancouver
Joint Communications Chapter, Prof.
Dave Michelson was nominated as the IEEE
Vancouver Section Chair. Since I (your
humble servant) is now the section secretary and
Ms. Zahra Ahmadian (our Vice Chair) took the
lead on the newly formed IEEE Vancouver WIE
Affinity Group we have a strong representation
locally.
I would like to mention that Prof. Dave
Michelson also have been able to help
IEEE ComSoc and
the
Japanese MCPC to form an alliance. This will
help to cross-promote IEEE WCET and MCPC
wireless
certification programs. Thank you Dave for this
successful and important achievement.
I would like to thank
Dr.
Edmund Ho for his role as the chair of the
advisory committee for the last two years and
welcome
Mr.
Lee Pucker as the new advisory committee

him success in his new tenure.
Zahra Ahmadian received her B.Sc. in Electrical
Engineering from Ajman University of Science and
Technology (AUST), UAE in 2005 and her M.A.Sc. in
Electrical and Computer Engineering from
University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2007. She
is currently a PhD. student in Communication
Theory research group at UBC. She was previously
the chair of AUST IEEE student branch in 2005 and

Association at UBC as the academic executive and
treasurer. Her research interests are coding,
concatenated codes, ultra-wideband, multiple
access interference and propagation in multi-path
channels. Please welcome Zahra and I am sure she
will be a great addition to our tight community.
